Best Electricians in Ottawa (2026): 10 Ranked by Review Volume
Ranked on Google review counts, each shown with the date it was measured. Last reviewed August 2026.
Most "best electricians" lists do not say how they were ordered, which makes them impossible to check. This one is ranked by a single number you can verify yourself: how many Google reviews each company's profile carries. The rating sits next to it, the method is stated below, and nobody paid to be here.
Short answer
Ranked by Google review volume as measured on 19 August 2026, the 10 Ottawa electricians carrying the most reviews are LB Electric - Ottawa Electrician (457 reviews), Symmetry Electric (217 reviews) and Ring Electric Inc. (187 reviews), followed by Campbell Electrical Contracting Inc, Evolta Electric, Brother's Electrical, Mike Fuller Electric Ltd, BRT Electric, Lumos Electric Inc, Geotech Electric INC. Only claimed Google Business Profiles whose primary Google category is an electrical category, within 30 km of downtown Ottawa, carrying at least 20 reviews were considered, and no business paid to appear.
How this list was built
- The candidate set: claimed Google Business Profiles whose primary category is an electrical category, within 30 km of downtown Ottawa, carrying at least 20 reviews. 100 profiles came back and 83 met that bar. Not our own listings — 5 of the 10 below are not listed in this directory, and they are named anyway.
- The order: number of Google reviews, highest first, on the figure shown beside each name. Not the star rating. A 5.0 from one review is not evidence, and sorting on rating would put it above a company with 457 reviews.
- Retailers are excluded, deliberately. An electric generator shop passed the category filter because its Google category genuinely contains the word "electric". It sells equipment rather than wiring a house, and a reader asking who to hire is not served by a shop.
- Measured: the candidate pool was pulled 19 August 2026. Where a company is also listed in this directory, the figure here is the one on its listing, carrying the date that listing was last checked — so the number you read here and the number one click away cannot disagree. Review counts move, so the date is part of the figure.
- What this is not: we have not hired, tested or inspected any company here, and nothing on this page is an endorsement. It ranks how much public feedback exists, which is a different thing from quality.
- Nobody paid: no placement on this page is or has been sold. No business pays for a listing or a position anywhere on this site. How listings are chosen is on the methodology page.

The two-minute check almost nobody does
This is the most useful thing on the page, and it costs you two minutes. Every legitimate electrical contractor in Ontario carries an ECRA/ESA licence number.
- It is seven digits, written like ECRA/ESA 7999999, and it should appear on the estimate, the business card and the van. A contractor who cannot produce one on request has answered your question.
- Electrical work must be reported to the Electrical Safety Authority by filing a notification of work before the work starts. Ask who is filing it. That notification is what gets the job inspected, and an uninspected job is the one that surfaces years later when you sell the house.
- The licence is the company, the certificate is the person. Both matter. A licensed contractor can still send someone unqualified, so ask who is actually doing the work on your job.
Our Ottawa electrician cost guide covers what the work usually costs and where the ESA fee sits in a quote.
What actually decides the bill in Ottawa
- The service call is often billed separately. Ask whether it is waived if you proceed with the work, because that answer changes what a second quote is worth getting.
- Knob-and-tube and aluminium wiring change everything. In older Ottawa neighbourhoods this is common, and it affects both the price and your home insurance. Say so up front rather than letting it be discovered mid-job.
- Panel upgrades are a permit job. Confirm the ESA fee is in the quote rather than added after, and confirm who books the inspection.
- Ask for the hourly rate and the minimum together. A low hourly rate with a four-hour minimum is not a low price for a thirty-minute job.
How to use a list like this without getting burned
Review volume tells you a company has been around and that a lot of people have had an opinion. It does not tell you they will be good on your house, on your date, at your price. Shortlist two or three from above, then insist on a written quote naming the ECRA/ESA number, the scope, the ESA notification and fee, and whether the service call is charged on top. Compare them on the same basis.
And read the one and two star reviews specifically, sorted by most recent. A company at 4.9 across 400 reviews can still have had a bad six months, and that is exactly what an average hides.
Common questions
- Who is the best electrician in Ottawa?
- There is no single answer, and anyone who gives you one without seeing the job is guessing. On the measure used here, the number of Google reviews behind a rating, LB Electric - Ottawa Electrician leads with 457 Google reviews at 4.9 as of 19 August 2026. The right electrician depends on whether this is a panel upgrade, a renovation rough-in, or a single dead circuit.
- How do I check an Ottawa electrician is licensed?
- In Ontario, ask for the ECRA/ESA licence number. It is seven digits, written like ECRA/ESA 7999999, and it should appear on the estimate, the business card and the van. You can look it up yourself in a couple of minutes. Separately, electrical work has to be reported to the Electrical Safety Authority by filing a notification of work before the work starts — ask who is filing it, because that notification is what gets the job inspected.
- How is this list ranked?
- By the number of Google reviews each company's profile carries, highest first, among claimed profiles whose primary Google category is an electrical category, within 30 km of downtown Ottawa, with at least 20 reviews. 100 profiles came back and 83 met that bar once retailers were removed. The candidate pool was measured on 19 August 2026, and each company's figure is shown with the date that figure was measured. It ranks how much public evidence exists about a company, not the quality of its work.
- Why are the notes on this page shorter than on your other lists?
- Because six of these ten publish no additional service categories on their Google profile, so there is less public detail to report than for trades whose profiles list five things. We would rather write a short note that is true than a long one that is invented. If a company's profile says nothing distinguishing, this page says nothing distinguishing about it.
- Why rank by review count instead of by star rating?
- Because a 5.0 from one review is not evidence. Sorting by rating would put a brand new profile above a company with 457 reviews at 4.9. Review count measures how much people have actually said, and the rating is shown next to it so you can weigh both.
- Have you used these electricians?
- No. We have not hired, tested or inspected any company on this page, and nothing here is an endorsement. This page ranks public review data with the method stated so you can check it yourself.
- Can a company pay to appear on this list?
- No. The order is the stated method applied to public data, and no placement on this page is or has been sold. Nothing anywhere on this site is sold either — no business pays for its listing or its position.
