Best Window Companies in Ottawa (2026): 13 Ranked by Review Volume

Ranked on Google review counts, each shown with the date it was measured. Last reviewed October 2026.

Most "best window companies" lists do not say how they were ordered, which makes them impossible to check. This one is ranked by a single number you can verify yourself: how many Google reviews each company's profile carries. The rating sits next to it, the method is stated below, and nobody paid to be here.

Short answer

Ranked by Google review volume as measured on 14 August 2026 and 19 August 2026, the 13 Ottawa window and door companies carrying the most reviews are Verdun Windows and Doors (2,392 reviews), Ecoline Windows and Doors (451 reviews) and Centennial Glass (419 reviews), followed by Canadian Choice Windows & Doors, Capitall Windows and Doors Ottawa, EcoTech Windows & Doors, Advanced View Windows and Doors Inc., Big City Windows & Doors, Bayview Windows, Westend Windows and Doors, Eco Ottawa Windows and Doors, Canadian Comfort Windows & Doors, BestCan Windows & Doors. Only window and door companies listed in this directory whose primary trade is windows and doors, whose listing names window installation or replacement, and which carry at least 50 Google reviews were considered, and no business paid to appear.

How this list was built

  • The candidate set: listings in this directory whose primary trade is windows and doors, whose own list of services names window installation or window replacement, carrying at least 50 Google reviews. On 6 October 2026, 20 listings sat under windows and doors and 13 passed all three tests. Every company below is listed in this directory, and the figure beside each one is read from its listing.
  • The order: number of Google reviews, highest first, on the figure shown beside each name. Not the star rating. A 5.0 from one review is not evidence, and sorting on rating would put it above a company with 2,392 reviews.
  • Who was left out, and why. Handyman Connection is listed under windows and doors too, but its primary trade here is handyman work, and its listing names fence and flooring installation beside windows, so its review count is not a window record. Mirror Works and Albion Glass and Aluminum are glass and mirror shops by their Google category, and neither listing names window installation or replacement. Two garage door companies filed under windows and doors were left out on primary trade. Advantage Enterprises Windows & Doors (AE Windows) and Window Mart Ottawa are window companies listed here that carried fewer than 50 reviews on the day.
  • Measured: the list was drawn from this directory's listings on 6 October 2026. Each figure is the one on that company's listing, carrying the date the listing last checked it, so the number you read here and the number one click away cannot disagree. Review counts move, so the date is part of the figure.
  • What this is not: we have not hired, tested or inspected any company here, and nothing on this page is an endorsement. It ranks how much public feedback exists, which is a different thing from quality.
  • Nobody paid: no placement on this page is or has been sold. No business pays for a listing or a position anywhere on this site. How listings are chosen is on the methodology page.

What a review count cannot tell you about a window

A long review history says a company has finished a lot of jobs and that a lot of people had something to say about them. It says nothing about the window it will quote you, or about who pays when a sealed unit fogs up years later. Those decide a window replacement, and each can be checked against a public source before you sign.

This list is thirteen companies out of twenty. Our window replacement in Ottawa page lists every window and door company in the directory, with the areas each one serves and the date its rating was checked.

What U-factor does a window need in Ottawa?

1.22 or lower, and the same number applies in Ottawa as in Vancouver. Natural Resources Canada's ENERGY STAR specification for windows, doors and skylights, Version 5.0, in force since January 1, 2020, certifies a residential window at a U-factor of 1.22 W/m²·K or lower, or an Energy Rating of 34 or higher. U-factor is heat loss, so lower is better. The Energy Rating balances heat loss, air leakage and the sun's heat coming in, so higher is better. The specification has no climate zones, which means there is no separate Ottawa figure to ask for.

NRCan's renovation guide, Keeping The Heat In, Section 8, puts numbers on the glazing: better double-glazed windows can reach a U-factor of 1.2 or lower, and triple-glazed windows go as low as 0.8. The same section names the figure that flatters a window. A centre-of-glass U-factor measures the glass alone and leaves out the edge of the glass and the frame, so the product looks more efficient than it is. A quote should give the overall U-factor of the exact model and size.

Environment and Climate Change Canada's 1991 to 2020 climate normals for the Macdonald-Cartier airport station average 15.6 days a year with a low below minus 20 °C. On those nights the inside of the glass is at its coldest, and NRCan's guide notes that an efficient window keeps that surface warmer and cuts condensation.

You can check a quote yourself in a few minutes. NRCan's searchable list of certified windows takes a brand and model number and returns its U-factor, Energy Rating, solar heat gain and air leakage, so a quoted model can be confirmed rather than taken on trust. And NRCan's stricter ENERGY STAR Most Efficient tier is set year by year: the 2025 criteria were a U-factor of 1.05 or lower, or an Energy Rating of 40 or higher. A quote that says Most Efficient should say which year.

Solar heat gain, the number most quotes skip

U-factor covers heat going out. The solar heat gain coefficient, a fraction between 0 and 1, covers the sun's heat coming in, and NRCan's guide treats it as a choice rather than a case of lower is better. Its rule of thumb is 0.3 to 0.4 for new homes and homes substantially renovated for energy efficiency, and above 0.4 for homes built before 1980 or homes that are not well insulated and air sealed, where letting more solar heat in is normally the better trade.

That older group is a large share of Ottawa. The 2021 Census counts 407,250 occupied homes in the city and about 44 per cent of them were built in 1980 or earlier. The low-E coating is where the choice gets made: NRCan describes passive low-E coatings with a high solar heat gain and solar control coatings with a low one. If your house is in that older group and has not had an energy retrofit, ask which coating the quote assumes, and the solar heat gain coefficient of the glass, before it is ordered.

NAFS and CSA A440: the performance standard behind the label

ENERGY STAR's two numbers measure energy. Whether a window keeps rain out and stands up to wind is measured against a separate standard. The North American Fenestration Standard, published as AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 and known as NAFS, is the performance standard for windows, doors and skylights, and in Canada it travels with a Canadian supplement, CSA A440S1. CSA Group describes the supplement as the method for working out the minimum performance a window needs against water penetration, wind load and snow load on a building in Canada. It also warns that its simplified wind tables can call for a higher performance grade than the building code itself would, and that for a house on steep ground, a hill or an escarpment the wind load is calculated under the building code instead.

Both are written into Ontario's rules. The November 2024 update to Ontario's Building Code Compendium lists NAFS and CSA A440S1:19 among the documents the Code references in Section 9.7, its section on windows, doors and skylights. NRCan's ENERGY STAR specification goes further for certified products: models must be tested to NAFS and its Canadian supplement and meet them, although a separate NAFS certification is not required.

On a quote, ask what performance grade the window is rated to and whether that meets what CSA A440S1 calls for on your house. A tall wall on open ground asks more of a window than a sheltered ground-floor opening does.

How the window goes in: insert or full tear-out

NRCan's guide describes two ways to replace a window. An insert sets the new window into the frame of the old one. It is usually cheaper and disturbs less of the wall and trim, and NRCan says it should be done only when the existing frame has not deteriorated and is properly sealed and insulated. A complete tear-out removes the old frame as well, which lets the installer make an airtight, insulated seal between the new window and the rough opening. Ask which one each opening is getting and why, and get the published price difference from our window replacement cost guide, where two Ottawa sources disagree about it.

Installation has its own Canadian standard. CSA A440.4:19, Window, door, and skylight installation, reaffirmed in 2024, sets out methods for both new and replacement installation of factory-built windows, exterior doors and skylights in low-rise and mainly residential buildings. Its scope note lists what poor installation can do: excessive condensation, air, water and sound leaking in, and deterioration of the wall around the window. Ontario's Building Code references it at Article 9.7.6.1, and CSA lets anyone read it with a free account.

NRCan's own checklist for a finished installation is short enough to hold an installer to:

  • An airtight, insulated seal around the window.
  • The window level and square, keeping its original shape, and carrying no load but its own weight.
  • Flashing and exterior finishing that direct water away from the window and its frame.
  • Sealing tapes and caulking used only as the window's manufacturer recommends.
  • Behind the trim, a gap of 6 mm or less insulated and then caulked, and a wider gap closed with backer rod and caulking or low-expansion foam.

Whether any of this needs the City is a separate question. A window going into an opening of the same size needs no building permit, an enlarged opening does, and a designated heritage property or an address in a heritage conservation district needs City approval for window replacement. The cost guide sets out all three with the City's own wording.

Two warranties, both in writing

A replacement window comes with two promises from two different parties: the manufacturer's on the unit and the installer's on the work. The Government of Ontario's guidance on home renovation contracts lists a clear description of any warranties among the things a contract should include, so both belong in yours, each with its length, what it covers, and whether it passes to the next owner if you sell.

The two are linked. NRCan's guide says a professional installation typically keeps the product warranty covered, and it suggests asking whether the company offers a third-party warranty on products and services. It also warns that an after-market film on the glass may void the manufacturer's warranty, which is worth knowing before anyone tints a new unit.

Ask about the sealed unit by name. When condensation appears between the panes, NRCan says the seal has broken and the fix is a new glazing unit, so check the warranty first. A shop that refurbishes failed units offers what NRCan calls a temporary fix that will not restore the original efficiency. Ask how long the sealed unit is covered and whether that coverage includes the labour to swap it.

There is no provincial licence to check for window installers, a point our cost guide covers. The nearest thing is an industry program. NRCan's guide points readers to Window Wise, run by the Siding and Window Dealers Association of Canada, which audits and certifies replacement window manufacturers and installation contractors. SAWDAC lists what its certification includes: a full 5 year transferable guarantee, random job inspections, and registration of your replacement job. Check a company against SAWDAC's dealer locator rather than a logo on its quote.

The window rebate, and the two dates it runs on

Windows and doors earn a rebate under Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program, run by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy, but only on its assessment route. A registered energy advisor assesses the house first, you complete at least two upgrades from that route, and the same advisor comes back for a follow-up assessment. The window measure needs at least three window rough openings, or one door, skylight or sliding door, replaced with ENERGY STAR certified models.

The program's eligibility requirements, version dated November 2025, add the conditions that change a quote:

  • It pays per rough opening rather than per window. The program's own worked example counts three windows in one rough opening once, so a bay or a set of joined units is one opening. Ask the installer to number the openings on the quote.
  • Non-certified windows have to be replaced with ENERGY STAR certified models.
  • The windows must be installed by a professional contractor.
  • A complete new window with its frame can go into the old frame, but replacing only the glass, the sash or a door without its frame is not eligible.
  • The ENERGY STAR labels stay on the new units until the follow-up assessment.

The dates are in the program's assessment terms, same November 2025 version, read on 6 October 2026. The follow-up assessment has to be scheduled by November 30, 2026, and completed within 180 days of the first assessment or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first. If the rebate is part of the plan, the installation date has to leave room for that follow-up. The rebate amounts for every measure are in our guide to the Home Renovation Savings Program in Ottawa.

How to compare three window quotes

Ontario's guidance is to get written estimates from at least three contractors and never to accept one over the phone or without a visit. Three quotes only compare when they answer the same questions, so put these to each company and expect them in writing:

  • The maker, model and size of each unit, so you can look it up on NRCan's list.
  • The overall U-factor or Energy Rating, and the solar heat gain coefficient of the glass.
  • The NAFS performance grade, and whether it meets CSA A440S1 for your house.
  • Insert or complete tear-out, opening by opening.
  • What the price covers: the unit, the labour, removal and disposal of the old window, exterior capping and interior trim, each on its own line.
  • The product warranty and the installation warranty, their lengths, sealed-unit coverage, and whether each transfers to a buyer.
  • The rough openings counted, if the rebate is part of the plan.
  • Who applies for a permit or a heritage approval, if either applies.

Two rules from the same Ontario page protect you after you choose. When the written estimate is part of the contract, the final price cannot be more than 10 per cent over it unless you agree to new work or a new price and sign the change. And a home renovation contract signed in your home carries a 10 calendar-day cooling-off period; if work starts inside those days you can still cancel, but you pay a reasonable amount for the work and materials already supplied.

Window brands: what the makers say about themselves

A window company and a window brand are not always the same business. Ask whose window is on the quote, because the product warranty comes from the manufacturer that made it. We do not rank brands. What follows is what each maker publishes about itself, read on 6 October 2026.

What are the top 5 brands of windows?

There is no measured top five. We found no ranking of window brands by quality or by sales from a Canadian regulator or standards body, and the lists that circulate online rank on their writers' opinion. The comparison that holds up is model against model: NRCan's searchable list shows the U-factor, Energy Rating, solar heat gain and air leakage of every certified window by brand and model, so the two models on two quotes can be set side by side on the same numbers.

What are the top window brands in Canada?

We know of no ranking to quote. What does exist is a published list: SAWDAC's Window Wise program names the Canadian replacement window manufacturers it has approved, and says each has been tested and exceeds building code standards for energy efficiency, air infiltration, water leakage and strength. On 6 October 2026 the list read, in its own order: EnerView Windows and Doors, Gentek Building Products, GreenFox Windows & Doors, Hometech Window Corp, Jeld-Wen Windows & Doors, Kohltech Window & Entrance Systems, North Star Mfg., Nova Doors and Windows Ltd., Stage Windows & Doors, Strassburger Windows & Doors, Vinyl Pro Window Systems, Vinyl Window Designs Ltd., Vinylbilt Windows & Doors Corp., Vinylguard Window and Door Systems Ltd., Window City Manufacturers Inc. and Window Mart.

Is Pollard Windows Canadian?

Yes. Pollard's About page says Pollard Windows Inc. was founded in Burlington, Ontario, in 1948, is still 100 per cent owned and operated by the family, now in its fourth generation, and designs and manufactures all of its products at its Burlington plant of more than 300,000 square feet.

Is JELD-WEN a Canadian company?

No. JELD-WEN's investor overview describes a company headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, with facilities in 16 countries in North America and Europe, making windows and doors since 1960. It also has a Canadian arm. Its Canadian About page says JELD-WEN entered the Canadian market in 1990, later moved its Canadian headquarters to Mississauga, and now runs four manufacturing plants across Canada. Window Wise lists Jeld-Wen Windows & Doors among its approved Canadian manufacturers. Which plant built a given window is a question for the dealer.

How to use a list like this without getting burned

Shortlist two or three companies from above whose service areas include your street, and send each the same list of questions. Then read their one and two star reviews, sorted by most recent. A company at 4.9 across a few hundred reviews can still have had a bad season, which the average across its whole history will not show you.

Common questions

Who is the best window company in Ottawa?
There is no single answer, and anyone who names one without seeing your house is guessing. On the measure used here, the number of Google reviews behind a rating, Verdun Windows and Doors leads with 2,392 Google reviews at 4.6 as of 19 August 2026. The right company for you depends on whether the frames can stay, which window you want, and which end of the city you live in.
How is this list ranked?
By the number of Google reviews on each company's listing in this directory, highest first. Only listings whose primary trade is windows and doors, whose services name window installation or replacement, and which carry at least 50 Google reviews were considered: 13 of the 20 listed under windows and doors on 6 October 2026. Each figure is shown with the date its listing last checked it. The list ranks how much public feedback exists, not the quality of anyone's work.
Why rank by review count instead of by star rating?
Because a 5.0 from two reviews is not evidence. Sorting by rating would put a near-empty profile above a company with 2,392 reviews at 4.6. Review count measures how much people have actually said, and the rating is shown next to it so you can weigh both.
What U-factor should a new window have in Ottawa?
1.22 W/m2K or lower, or an Energy Rating of 34 or higher. That is the ENERGY STAR test in Natural Resources Canada's Version 5.0 specification, in force since January 1, 2020, and it is one number for the whole country, with no Ottawa climate zone. NRCan's Keeping the Heat In guide adds that better double-glazed windows can reach 1.2 or lower and triple-glazed ones as low as 0.8. Ask for the overall U-factor of the exact model, not a centre-of-glass figure, which leaves out the frame and the edge of the glass.
Have you used these companies?
No. We have not hired, tested or inspected any company on this page, and nothing here is an endorsement. This page ranks public review data with the method stated so you can check it yourself.
Can a company pay to appear on this list?
No. The order is the stated method applied to public data, and no placement on this page is or has been sold. No business pays for its listing or its position anywhere on this site.
