Best Snow Removal in Ottawa (2026): 10 Ranked by Review Volume
Ranked on Google review counts, each shown with the date it was measured. Last reviewed September 2026.
Most "best snow removal companies" lists do not say how they were ordered, which makes them impossible to check. This one is ranked by a single number you can verify yourself: how many Google reviews each company's profile carries. The rating sits next to it, the method is stated below, and nobody paid to be here.
Short answer
Ranked by Google review volume as measured on 1 September 2026, the 10 Ottawa snow removal companies carrying the most reviews are J.R. Lawn & Snow (1,515 reviews), Kodiak Snow Blowing & Lawncare, Inc (675 reviews) and Capital Services (627 reviews), followed by Worry Free Snowblowing Inc, Barrhaven Landscaping & Snow Removal Inc., Snow-Care Works, Green Works Contracting Inc., Andy's Snow Blowing and Lawncare Ottawa, Hunt Club East Snow & Lawn, Green Acres Snow Blowing. Only claimed Google Business Profiles whose Google category is a snow removal, landscaping or lawn care category, within 30 km of downtown Ottawa, on the Ontario side, carrying at least 20 reviews and a rating of 4.0 or better were considered, and no business paid to appear.
How this list was built
- The candidate set: claimed Google Business Profiles whose Google category is a snow removal, landscaping or lawn care category, within 30 km of downtown Ottawa, carrying at least 20 reviews. 86 profiles came back and 60 met that bar, of which 49 are on the Ontario side and 38 of those clear the rating floor below. Not our own listings — 1 of the 10 below is not listed in this directory, and it is named anyway.
- The order: number of Google reviews, highest first, on the figure shown beside each name. Not the star rating. A 5.0 from one review is not evidence, and sorting on rating would put it above a company with 1,515 reviews.
- This list applies a 4.0 rating floor, which our other ranked guides do not, and excludes Quebec. Both are departures and both change the order, so here is what they removed. Eleven Gatineau-side companies were dropped, seven of which clear the rating floor; the largest of those seven, at 171 reviews, would have placed tenth. Snow clearing is bought by route, not by region. Then these four Ontario companies were dropped on rating, the first three of them holding more reviews than the company standing tenth: Metro Snow & Ice Removal of Nepean (195 reviews, rated 1.7), NOELs of Ottawa (165 reviews, rated 3.5), Snowbusters Snowblowing Inc of Ottawa (111 reviews, rated 1.9) and Precision Snow Removal (94 reviews, rated 1.9). Of the 49 Ottawa-side profiles, 11 sit below 4.0 and three sit below 3.0 — a spread no other trade in this directory produces.
- Measured: the candidate pool was pulled 1 September 2026. Where a company is also listed in this directory, the figure here is the one on its listing, carrying the date that listing was last checked — so the number you read here and the number one click away cannot disagree. Review counts move, so the date is part of the figure.
- What this is not: we have not hired, tested or inspected any company here, and nothing on this page is an endorsement. It ranks how much public feedback exists, which is a different thing from quality.
- Nobody paid: no placement on this page is or has been sold. No business pays for a listing or a position anywhere on this site. How listings are chosen is on the methodology page.
Ottawa snow removal companies by review volume
- 01
J.R. Lawn & Snow
4.5 from 1,515 Google reviews, measured 19 August 2026. Based in Ottawa.
Carries more Google reviews than the next two companies here combined, on a profile filed under snow removal rather than landscaping.
- 02
Kodiak Snow Blowing & Lawncare, Inc
4.7 from 675 Google reviews, measured 13 July 2026. Based in Stittsville.
Based in Stittsville and one of the few here whose profile names a specific west-end catchment rather than Ottawa generally.
- 03
Capital Services
4.4 from 627 Google reviews, measured 14 August 2026. Based in Ottawa.
Files under snow removal with lawn care as a secondary category, which is the ordinary shape of a seasonal Ottawa operator.
- 04
Worry Free Snowblowing Inc
4.2 from 623 Google reviews, measured 19 August 2026. Based in Navan.
Based in Navan, east of the city, and holds effectively the same review count as Capital Services on a slightly lower rating.
- 05
Barrhaven Landscaping & Snow Removal Inc.
4.7 from 518 Google reviews, measured 19 August 2026. Based in Ottawa.
Its own site places it in Ottawa South, and its Google profile leads with snow removal despite the landscaping half of the name.
- 06
Snow-Care Works
5.0 from 418 Google reviews, measured 13 July 2026. Based in Orléans.
The only company here holding a clean 5.0, and it does so across more than four hundred reviews rather than a handful.
- 07
Green Works Contracting Inc.
4.8 from 220 Google reviews, measured 19 August 2026. Based in Gloucester.
Its primary Google category is landscaper rather than snow removal service, so snow is one season of a wider contracting business.
- 08
Andy's Snow Blowing and Lawncare Ottawa
4.1 from 185 Google reviews, measured 14 August 2026. Based in Ottawa.
Holds the lowest rating of the ten kept here, clearing the 4.0 floor rather than sitting comfortably above it.
- 09
Hunt Club East Snow & Lawn
4.7 from 181 Google reviews, measured 14 August 2026. Based in Gloucester.
Names Hunt Club and Findlay Creek on its own site, which is a narrower catchment than most profiles here declare.
- 10
Green Acres Snow Blowing
4.8 from 110 Google reviews, measured 1 September 2026. Based in Navan.
Based in Navan and the only one of the ten with no listing in this directory, so its figures here are the pool measurement.
Not listed in this directory.
Why this list has a rating floor and our others do not
Every other ranked guide on this site orders companies by review count alone, on the argument that the count measures how much public evidence exists rather than how good the work is. That argument does not survive this trade, and the pool said so plainly: of the 49 Ottawa-side profiles, 11 sit below 4.0 and three sit below 3.0. No other trade here produces that spread.
The reason is structural rather than moral. Snow removal is the only trade where the customer discovers the failure at 6am, in the dark, unable to get the car out, on the morning they most needed to. A painter who runs late gets a phone call. A plow that does not come gets a one-star review the same hour. So the ratings on this trade are bimodal in a way that a volume-only ranking handles badly: without a floor, a company rated 1.7 out of 5would sit eighth on a page headed “best”, on the strength of 195 people telling you not to hire it.
The floor costs something real, which is why the excluded companies are named above rather than quietly dropped. Three of the four hold more reviews than companies kept on the list. You may reasonably want to look at them anyway — a 1.9 across 94 reviews is still a great deal of information — and the point of naming them is that you can.
The three questions that actually separate these companies
Review counts get you a shortlist. What decides whether a contract is good is none of the things a ranking can see, and all three are answerable in one phone call.
- What is the trigger, and what is the response window? Contracts differ on when the operator comes out — after a set snowfall depth, typically measured in centimetres — and how long they have to get there. A 5 cm trigger and a 12 cm trigger are different products at a similar price. Ask for both numbers.
- Does it include the return visit after the City plow? This is the one people get wrong. When the City clears your street it leaves a compacted ridge across the end of your driveway, and the City states that removing it is the property owner's responsibility. It arrives after you have finished, it is denser than anything that fell on your driveway, and for most Ottawa households it is the actual reason they hire anyone. A quote to clear a driveway and a quote that includes coming back are two different services.
- What is cleared, and is salt included? Walkways, steps and the full driveway width are each separately negotiable, and salting or sanding is frequently extra. Our Ottawa snow removal cost guide carries what companies here publish for each.
The licence, and the exemption that matters
Anyone running a snow plow as a business in Ottawa must hold a snow plow contractor licence, and the company you hire must have a valid business licence to operate. The requirement does not apply to a person clearing snow with a shovel or a manual snow-blower.
That exemption is the useful half. A neighbour's teenager with a shovel is not required to hold anything and there is nothing wrong with hiring one. A truck with a plow blade taking cash for a whole street is a different proposition, and the licence is the line between them. The cost guidecarries the by-law that also prohibits pushing your snow onto the road, which is how a cheap quote sometimes becomes your problem rather than the contractor's.
Book in autumn or take what is left
This is the one piece of timing advice worth more than the ranking above. Seasonal snow contracts are route-based: an operator commits to a set of driveways close enough together to clear in one pass, and once that route is full it is full for the winter. The companies on this page are on it because a lot of people have hired them, which is precisely why they fill first.
Calling in September or October gets you a choice. Calling after the first real storm gets you whoever still has capacity, at whatever they are charging that week, and the operators with capacity in December generally have it for a reason. If you take one thing from this list, take the phone number and use it before the snow.
Common questions
- Who is the best snow removal company in Ottawa?
- There is no single answer, and for snow the honest complication is timing rather than trade. On the measure used here, the number of Google reviews behind a rating, J.R. Lawn & Snow leads with 1,515 Google reviews at 4.5 as of 19 August 2026. But the company that clears your street well is often a small operator with a route near you, and the one thing every good operator has in common is that they are full by November. Book the contract, not the company.
- Why does this list use a rating floor when your other guides do not?
- Because snow removal's rating spread is unlike any other trade in this directory. Of the 49 Ottawa-side profiles in the pool, 11 sit below 4.0 and three sit below 3.0 — a missed storm produces a one-star review from somebody who could not get out of their driveway, and that does not happen to a painter. Ranking on review count alone would have placed a company rated 1.7 out of 5, on 195 reviews, in eighth position on a page headed "best". A 4.0 floor is applied and the companies it removed are named on the page with their numbers.
- Why are there no Gatineau companies on this list?
- The 30 km pool radius from downtown Ottawa reaches well into Gatineau, and 11 Quebec-side companies came back. Seven of them clear the 4.0 rating floor this page applies, and the largest of those seven — 171 reviews at 4.9 — would have placed tenth. They were excluded because snow clearing is bought by street and by route, not by region: a page headed "best snow removal in Ottawa" that ranks Gatineau contractors is answering a question nobody asked. This is a deliberate departure from the pool and not an oversight.
- How is this list ranked?
- By the number of Google reviews each company's profile carries, highest first, among claimed profiles whose Google category is a snow removal, landscaping or lawn care category, within 30 km of downtown Ottawa, on the Ontario side, with at least 20 reviews and a rating of 4.0 or better. 86 profiles came back, 60 met the category bar, 49 of those were Ontario-side, and 38 of the 49 cleared the rating floor. The pool was measured on 1 September 2026. It ranks how much public evidence exists about a company, not the quality of its work.
- Do snow removal companies in Ottawa need a licence?
- Yes, for anyone running a plow as a business. The City of Ottawa requires a snow plow contractor licence, and the company you hire must hold a valid business licence. The requirement does not apply to somebody clearing snow with a shovel or a manual snow-blower. A truck with a plow blade taking cash for a whole street is the case the licence exists for, and it is a fair question to ask before you pay a deposit.
- Why rank by review count instead of by star rating?
- Because a 5.0 from one review is not evidence. Sorting by rating would put a brand new profile above a company with 1,515 reviews. The rating floor here is a minimum bar rather than the sort order, and the two do different jobs: the floor keeps a 1.7 off a "best" page, the count says how much public evidence stands behind what you are reading.
- Have you used these companies?
- No. We have not hired, tested or inspected any company on this page, and nothing here is an endorsement. This page ranks public review data with the method stated so you can check it yourself.
- Can a company pay to appear on this list?
- No. The order is the stated method applied to public data, and no placement on this page is or has been sold. Nothing anywhere on this site is sold either — no business pays for its listing or its position.
